Located in the beautiful north central portion of Colorado, North Park and Jackson County offer the exceptional outdoor recreational opportunities in spectacular mountain scenery. The terrain varies from 12,000 foot glacier carved peaks to beautiful lush river valleys. We even have sand dunes in the park.

Be it summer, fall or winter, you will find that North Park has unequaled natural beauty and a true “down home, western” atmosphere. It is a hunting , fishing and outdoor recreation paradise. There are hundreds of open lakes and miles and miles of trout stream. The park abounds with Curious bear, beaver dams teeming with fat Brook Trout, and excellent big game hunting as well.

There is an abundance of “public lands” in national forests, state forest, Bureau of Land Management, state trust lands, state parks and ranches. State and national forest lands surround the Powderhorn Cabins. You will find unique historical, natural and cultural sites and some of the best off-highway vehicle, mountain bike and hiking trails in Colorado. Maps are available in the office.

Plenty of wildlife viewing to be enjoyed here.

Wildlife prevails…including moose, elk, deer, antelope, bear, beaver, coyotes, bobcat, fox, grouse, ducks and geese and about every species of trout found in Colorado.

Undiscovered, undeveloped and unspoiled…this is what you will enjoy the most about this area. It is truly the best kept secret in Colorado. You will love it!

Pictured here is Agnes Lake, just one of the many scenic landscapes to be found only a short distance from your Powderhorn Cabin front door. About a six mile drive from The Powderhorn Cabins, one can enjoy a moderately challenging 0.8 mile hike to this breathtaking view.

Whether you are looking for an all-day, extreme alpine bouldering experience or a leisurely stroll in the crisp, clean Colorado air, you will find it all right here. With so much unspoiled territory, you are sure to be surrounded by postcard views at every turn.

For those who would rather find another way around the mountains other than hiking, one recommended way is to travel by horse. Some prefer this method simply because carrying all of their photography equipment just isn´t practical. And, it is fun of course.
